چکیده

Methods We surveyed the plant species of 44 small islands over a 5-year period from 1998 to 2002. Hurricanes Lili and Michelle occurred in 1996 and 2001, respectively; both storms affected small islands on the more exposed south-west side of Great Exuma to a greater degree than small islands on the more protected north-east side. A set of 27 islands was surveyed in 1998 and 2002 to evaluate species turnover. Stepwise multiple linear regression analyses and an informationtheoretic approach (the Akaike information criterion) were used to elucidate the importance of area and distance as predictors of plant species number. We compared a piecewise linear regression model with a simple linear regression of species number against area to determine whether a small island effect existed. Nestedness patterns were evaluated by Wilcoxon two-sample tests to analyse occurrence sequences.

Nestedness in insular floras: spatiotemporal variation and underlying mechanisms

Aims Nestedness is a characteristic of insular metacommunity structure. relatively few studies, however, have attempted to evaluate temporal changes in nestedness, or elucidate the mechanisms underlying nestedness. I evaluated both spatial and temporal patterns of nestedness in the insular floras of four archipelagoes of small islands in the bahamas and the potential underlying environmental gr...

Global patterns and drivers of phylogenetic structure in island floras

Islands are ideal for investigating processes that shape species assemblages because they are isolated and have discrete boundaries. Quantifying phylogenetic assemblage structure allows inferences about these processes, in particular dispersal, environmental filtering and in-situ speciation. Here, we link phylogenetic assemblage structure to island characteristics across 393 islands worldwide a...

Evolution of population genetic structure of the British roe deer by natural and anthropogenic processes (Capreolus capreolus)

Human influence typically impacts on natural populations of conservation interest. These interactions are varied and sometimes complex, and may be negative and unintended or associated with conservation and management strategy. Understanding the details of how these interactions influence and are influenced by natural evolutionary processes is essential to the development of effective conservat...

Pseudopapillary and Macrofollicular Microscopic Growth Patterns in an Advanced Stage Ovarian Dysgerminoma: A Case Report

ysgerminoma is one of the two most common types of ovarian germ cell tumors. Providing accurate pathologic diagnosis and treatment planning, the prognosis is good even in advanced stages. Pathologic diagnosis is generally straightforward. In microscopic examination, the usual known growth patterns in tumor cells are solid, trabecular, insular and rarely pseudoglandular. In this paper, we ...

Initial Experience with Brain Mapping under Awake Craniotomy for Resection of Insular Gliomas of the Dominant Hemisphere

Background & Importance: Insular lobe is located at the depth of sylvian fissure and is hidden by frontal, temporal and parietal lobes in close vicinity of internal capsule and basal ganglia and adjacent to the speech centers in the dominant hemisphere. Thus, radical resection of insular gliomas can be even more difficult. Brain mapping techniques can be used to maximize the extent of...
